The Lurz Family Home Page - Baltimore, MD OriginUpdated January 19, 2002 |

| My branch of the Lurz family emigrated from Germany to Baltimore, MD - USA around the time of or shortly after the American Civil War. There were 2 brothers, Thomas and Joseph who established homes and businesses in Baltimore. Joseph, my great grandfather, a bootmaker, married Regina Stoeker, a German immigrant who arrived as an indentured servant. She is alleged to have paid off her fare working as a seamstress. Joseph was born Jan. 9, 1844. Regina was born Dec. 17, 1845. Both in Bavaria Iaccording to family myth. Most of the family remained in the Baltimore area until after WW II. I am also researching the surnames Schulz, Sponheimer, Harmeyer, Harris, vonBriesen (particularly Oscar vB) and Miller. George Adam Sponheimer, a ship captain who established a saloon business on the Baltimore waterfront, was a maternal great grandfather. His wife was Barbara Flick. Their birth dates are about 1845 but I don't know their birth countries. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. In return, I will be pleased to share any information I have with other researchers. |
