Notes for J
OHN PURCHASE WHALEY:
From the compilation of Margaret Barlow Omans, August 1981:
The first Whaley to come to America fled England at the time of the restoration of the monarchy (Charles II, 1660) because he [Whaley] had been one of the signers of the order for the execution of Charles I under Cromwell. The Whaleys are buried in Bruton Parish Cemetary, Williamsburg, Virginia. (I have seen the order for the execution of the signors on the "Convict Ship." His name was spelled Whalley.)
