Notes for Enos Meacham:
NOTES: Enos is found witnessing a will in Renesslear Co., NY, in 1796; he is in the 1800 census for Canaan, Columbia Co., NY. He is found buying propertyin Cortland Co., NY on 13 APR 1810. It is believed that he, as well as other Meacham family members, are buried in a private cemetery located on lot 64 of Marathon town, Cortland Co. This cemetery has since been deserted and destroyed.

"Marathon Independence"--18 June 1872--end of article 4, titled, "A Historical Sketch of the Early Settlement of the Town of Marathon", says, "Several other instances of working bands of brothers might be mentioned, who settled at an early period in the east part of this town. There was a family of the name of Meacham, including five brothers, respectively named Simeon, Gideon, Issacher, Issaac, and Jonah, who settled near Merrill's Creek. The latter one, Jonah, once kept a tavern where Homer Wightman's Cheese Factory is now located.
"History of Cortland County" (H.P. Smith, Syracuse 1885) p. 356--"The Meachams, including five brothers, settled early in the eastern part of the town. Their names were Simon, Gideon, Issacher, Isaac, and Jonah; they located near Merrill Creek. Jonah kept a tavern for a time, where Homer Wightman's cheese factory is now located."
