Updated April 30, 2007

The Lybarger Memorial Association announced at their July annual meeting at Madley, Pennsylvania, the updating of the 1997 book The Lybarger Descendants. It brings together in one 1006 page volume, the history of all known descendants who have ever lived or are living in America. The book was co-authored by John Lavern Lybarger of Battle Creek, Michigan and Lee Hartshorne Lybarger of Delaware, Ohio, it represents the culmination of research and fact gathering they began over twenty years ago. It replaces the 1959 book, History Of The Lybarger Family, by Donald F. Lybarger which contained 1,525 names. The present book identified over 25,344 names including known spouses of the direct descendants of Nicholas Leyberger who arrived in Philadelphia from Germany in August, 1739.

The Lybarger Descendants (2000 edition) breaks new ground by including essays on the origin of the Lybarger name, the migration to America and establishment first in Bedford County, Pennsylvania in the late 1700's and in Knox County, Ohio in the early 1800's. The book also includes a history of the Lybarger Lutheran Church and the Lybarger Revolutionary War Memorial both located at Madley, Pennsylvania, and a four page bibliography. The index of surnames alone is 107 pages and lists 5022 different surnames. Family data can be extracted to construct a pedigree chart for a particular branch, a sample of which is included in the book.

The Lybarger Memorial Association, publisher of The Lybarger Descendants, has been in existence since 1985. It includes among its programs the promotion of family reunions, genealogical research and the publishing of a newsletter "Lybarger Linkages". Over 1,000 households and organizations in the United States and Canada receive the newsletter twice a year. The 1997 meeting and reunion of the Lybargers at Madley, Pennsylvania. brought together over 50 families representing in addition to Pennsylvania, the states of Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, New Jersey, and Virginia.

The Book has been sold out.
