Ellen Shay (b. September 01, 1851, d. April 02, 1935)

Mrs Ellen SWEENEY
Ellen Shea, daughter of -Margaret
and Jeremiah Shea, was born at New
Diggings Sept. 1, 1851. When she was
very young the family moved to a
farm near Hyde's Mill In the town of
Ridgeway where she grew to woman-
hood.' In the year 1880 she became
the bride of Daniel Sweeney atSt.
Bridget's church In Ridgeway and to
them were born two children, Dan-
iel, Jr. of Madison and Mary, deceas-
ed..*.
Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney resided in
Dodgeville where the husband passed
on, Feb. 16, 1897 and shortly after-
ward the widow moved back to the
old home farm at Hyde. Fifteen years
later she again 'returned to Dodge-
ville where she spent her remaining
years. Sbe passed quietly away April
2, 1936 at the age of83years, 7
months and I- day.'-
Mrs. Sweeney was a quiet home-
loving woman whose life was a beau-
tiful Christian relationship with fam-
ily, neighbors' and friends.Through-
out the yeafssheacquiredonly
friends and the respect ofall who
knew her.
Funeral services were held Friday
motning from St. Joseph'schurch
with Rev. Fr. F. L.McDonnellof
Ridgeway officiating. His timely text
."For Me to Live Is Christ; To Die is
"Gain" was most appropriate'to the'
'memory of the deceased. Iterment
was in the family lot At East Side
cemetery.
