I am researching my father George Jack Lyons who was born in Chicago, Illinois 9th October, 1894. His parents were Edward George Lyons (father) and Lydia Beatrice Rees who was born in Virginia around 1874, all that is known at this stage is that she died in 1908 at the age of 34, which was when Jack at 14 yrs left home an travelled to San Fransisco took up a apprenticeship as a carpenter/joiner after which around 1914/15 he took a ship to New Zealand and shortly after arrival in Auckland he met and married Valborg Muriel Hansen whose father was a sea captain John Gustave Hansen from Norway (who also left the sea and lived the remainder of his life in New Zealand). My mother Valborg Muriel Hansen's mother was a Irish immigrant from London by the name of Martha Mary Clarke who immigrated from England with her family in the mid to late 1800's. Names involved in my family tree to date consist of Lyons, Hansen, Rees Clarke,Buchanan,Dixon Garraway,and Wishart. Plus many others slowly coming out of the woodpile. T
