"The Family Tree of The Lyttles"

Updated January 17, 2003

· DEDICATION: My dear wife Ann Bertiaux Lyttle initiated the creation of this family tree in 1989. For various reasons, she set it aside intending to finish it at a later date. After Ann's death in 1996, I decided to finish the undertaking with my sons and grandchildren in mind. It's been a challenge, but, at the same time, it's been very enjoyable. I've visited many county court houses in states including Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia to gain new information about our ancestors. In addition, family members and the Internet have provided useful information. Now, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel- a finish.
Please forgive any errors. I will continue to and add new information as time passes. Enjoy!

· EARLY BEGINNINGS: The earliest beginning of our ancestry in Colonial America was with the arrival of Robert R Houston from Scotland in about 1655. He was born in Wigtown, Scotland in about 1632 and crossed the Atlantic to settle in Pokomoke, Somerset County, Maryland. And, it was here that he met and married Grace Benson. The Lankford lineage began with the arrival of William Lankford and Amanda Stone from England in about 1720. They settled and married in Tryon, Rutherford County, North Carolina. Robert Lankford, their first-born child, was my 3rd great-grandfather. The first Bertiaux to arrive in America (about 1895) was Costal Hector Bertiaux, the grandfather of my wife, Ann Bertiaux Lyttle. Some of the earliest (17th Century) family settlers in Virginia included Peter Bays I (Russell County, Virginia), Micayah Snead and Sarah Bolling Snead (about 1750), David Little and George Chadwell.
· A family book, "The Family Tree of the Lyttles" is added, but does not include pictures. Pictures referred to in the book will be added as family photos.
