We had her date of birth as Oct 8, 1854 - looks like numbers 10-8-1854 may have been mixed up with 8-10-1854.

Yes Martha Jane had at least 4 girls [I think before she wed] at least the
girls names were Mabe. Word of mouth says she wasn't wed--but she could have been. After m) Whitaker --they had:

Have never found Martha in census with her girls---have searched the counties in & around PULASKI Co Va. nada--nil--nothing. Mmy data came from word of mouth & the marriages records of Lillie Bell & mine which was Laura Ellen. Any suggestions. Was told Martha had a brother William who lived Pulaski Co & was a barber---maybe they were children of JOHN MABE????? - Louise

We have found the marriage record for Martha Jane Mabe and Peter Whitaker showing she is the same Martha Jane Mabe daughter of Alexander Mabe.

Daughter Laura's first marriage shows her father is S.C. Mabe. Assuming he is the father of the other daughters.

Notes for SAMUEL CROCKETT MABE:
The marriage record of Laura Ellen Mabe found on the LDS film of Pulaski Co. marriages by Mary Kay Mabe reports his name as S.C. Mabe. Louise Semones reports that she has Laura Ellen's marriage record and her father is listed as Samuel Crockett Mabe.

So far this is the only document that lists the father of any of these girls.
