He married EMILY CYNTHIA HATFIELD October 16, 1879 in Cabell County, West Virginia, daughter of HENRY HATFIELD and KATHERINE DIAL. She was born October 27, 1849 in Cabell County, West Virginia, and died April 26, 1933 in Cabell County, West Virginia.

Notes for D
ANIEL WEBSTER SWANN:
Daniel was a farmer and beekeeper for many years. He was also a Mason. Daniel came to live with Emily as a
handyman after his
uncle, and her 1st husband, Beverly Swann died in 1877. They married in 1879. They lived in the same house she
and Beverly had
lived in. It was a log cabin that came to be known locally as the 'Old Home Place'.
The Old Home Place was originally built about 1869, no later. Probably by Daniel's father Calvary Swann. According to 1928 interview with Daniel, Calvary died there in 1870, and left the home to Beverly. Daniel's Gr-father, Josiah, died there in 1871. Beverly died there in 1877. Two of his children, Effie & William, died there also. Emily, and later Daniel, died in the house also. When they were gone, the Home Place went to their daughter Myrtle. After her death, ownership went to James W. Swann, son of her brother Robert. In 1999, he sold it to me, George S. Swann, grandson of Myrtle's brother Henry. The Old Home Place had seen the births of all of Beverly & Emily's as well as all of Daniel & Emily's children born. Also several family members passed away while resting within its walls. In 2000, the Home Place finally had to be torn down after 130+ years. It seems termites enjoyed many
years of comfortable living there too!

Aunt Myrtle was a school teacher for many years. First at Salt Rock. Then she spent many years
at Ousley's Gap School. She spent several years travelling down through Logan Co. W.V.
teaching. The old Schoolhouse at Ousley's Gap was first built in 1866. It was later renovated a
couple of times. It finally fell to the ground in the mid 1970s. Myrtle also kept the old Leven C.
Swann Cemetery for many years. After her death, those duties fell to Beulah Dial, her 2nd cousin who came to live at the cabin in 1929 to watch Myrtle's parents while she was out of town teaching. Beulah also inherited a lifetime residence at the Home Place, along with Viola Phillips (a lifelong friend of both). Beulah died in 2000. Viola is living in Gallipolis, Ohio now.
