MASSENGALE KING -- Ruby Mabe Massengale, 75, of Walnut Cove Health Care Center, formerly of Bannertown Church Road, Germanton, died Monday, June 26, 2000. She was born in Stokes County on Jan. 17, 1915, to Will and Lucinda Frye Mabe. Surviving are a son, Richard Henry Tucker Jr. of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Jeff Tucker and wife Dana of Germanton and Tammy Tucker of Walnut Cove; two great-grandchildren, Tamara and Drew Tucker of Germanton, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Stoney Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Slate Funeral Home in King.

Obituary for Eliza Mabe

Mrs. Eliza Barnard Mabe, the daughter of Ben and Amanda Barnard, was born at Sneedville, Tennessee May 22, 1865 - Died June 4, 1955 at Flat Lick, Ky. She was 90 years, 13 days of age.

January 3, 1887, she was united in marriage to John W. Mabe, who died January 1, 1914. To this union six children were born, four of whom preceded her in death. The survivors are a son, George Mabe of Monroe, Michigan: and and a daughter, Amanda Gibson, of Flat Lick, Ky, with whom she made her home.

She united with the Blue Top Missionary Baptist Church at Tazewell, Tennessee forty-four years ago.

She lived a quiet, peaceful life and she said she was just waiting till she was called.

For more than 14 years she was an invalid. She never failed to listen to the Bingham Town Church on the air every Sunday morning.

Her Motto: -

Heaven is not reached in a single bound. But we build the ladder on which we rise from the lowly earth to the vaulted skies. And we mount to the summit round by round.

Her Favorite song: -

"The Bright morning star is rising, Day is breaking in my Soul"

Burial was at Hughes Cemetery, New Tazewell, Tennessee, Monday, June 6, 1955 at 2 p.m. Durham Funeral Home of Pineville, Ky. in charge.

Brother W.B. Bingham of Middlesboro conducted assisted by Rev. Hence Smith of Tennessee.
