She was born December 08, 1871 in Stokes County, North Carolina, and died December 22, 1950 in Rockingham County, North Carolina.

Notes for WILLIAM POWELL NELSON:
Contacted Typhoid Fever when rain caused Little Snow Creek to run over into the spring, contaminating the drinking water. The Elders of Northview Primitive Baptist Church refused to allow his remains into their church for funeral services because he was reportedly a "Methodist". Services were held in a nearby tobacco barn during a thunderstorm before he was buried in the church cemetery, according to family members.

Notes for MARTHA LETTITIA THROCKMORTON:
Martha Lettitia (Lettie) Throckmorton Nelson married when she was 27 years old. Her husband was 18 at the time so she gave her age as 22, perhaps to appear to be nearer husband's young age. When he died leaving her with six children, she proceeded to raise them alone by farming and getting by the best she could. When she went to town to sell her tobacco crop, she took along her children and encouraged the buyers to "help out the poor fatherless children" by paying the better prices for her tobacco. In her later years she moved to Forsyth County, NC, after living in Rockingham County for the majority of her life, having moved there when the children were still young and in school. She lived with her daughter, Obera, in Rockingham County for the last few years and died at the home of her son, William Troy Nelson, in Rockingham County where she had been for just a few months
