Banner's Mother passed away on Oct, 1901 when he was 20 Months old and his sister Essie was Nine months old. His Daddy couldn't keep them so he gave Banner to his Material Grandparents which was John R. and Elizabeth Riggs Mabe.
They raised him along with his uncle Watt, his mothers brothers and sisters until he married my Mother. Essie was sent to her parental grandparents which was John Fez Mabe and Cornelia Mabe.
Banner and Essie's daddy remarried to Emma Lee Mabe on Feb 16, 1902. the daughter of Franklin and
Charity Mabe, Emma's Lee's brothers and sisters were Henderson, Walter, Matt, Mary Jane and Ollie Belle.

When I was nine months old my mother died and my brother Banner who was two years Old & I were separated, he went to live with our maternal grandparents and i was placed with our paternal grandparents. I started to school when I was eight years old, I had to walk Three miles or more across hills and hollows and across two creeks to a one room schoolhouse called Fagg School, At that time our teacher was Mr. Ollie Bennett, other teachers that I had were Jenny Flinchum, Gid Moore, Dora Padgett and my Favorite teacher was Judy Ray. I attended school until I was about thirteen, then my chores at home took most of all my time. We carried our lunch to school, usually molasses and bread, a piece of meat, baked potato or just a piece of bread.

Funeral services will be held at Star Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 30, 2006 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Currie officiating. Burial will follow at Biscoe Cemetery located at 480 N. Main St., Biscoe.

Mrs. Mabe was born in Montgomery County to Steadman M. and Annie Rebecca York Wallace, who preceded her in death.

She was a former employee of Springs Inc. and a poultry farmer. She was a member of Star Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by husband, Rayford Mabe of the home and sister Ina Jean Saunders of Summerville, S.C.

The family will receive family and friends from 7 until 9 p.m. on Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home.
