The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. James Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 1400 US 220 Alt., Star.

Mr. Mabe was a native of Stokes County and was a farmer in Montgomery County. He was married to his wife for 67 years.

Surviving are his wife, Verda B. Mabe, of the home; son and wife, Gary and Jean Mabe of Greensboro.

Visitation will be from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Phillips Funeral Home.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Ruth Whitlock Mabe, 79, passed away in Danville, Va. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003.

A native of Roanoke, she had been a long time Newport News resident. A faithful wife and loving mother, she was a homemaker and member of North Riverside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mabe was preceded in death by her husband, J.G. Mabe; daughter, Judy. M. Verell; three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol M. Janke of Danville and Peggy M. Proffitt of Claremont; two sisters, Rachel Hayes and Lucille Williams; brother, Douglas A. Whitlock; five grandchildren, Bill Verell, Michelle J. Kozlowicz, Bryan A. Janke, Samantha Proffitt and Rebecca Proffitt and one great-grandchild, Peyton Kozlowicz.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6 at Peninsula Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Tuesday in Peninsula Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Quinton T. Madden.
