Notes for MAUDE VICTORIA HASH:
Henry and Maude 'dated' for ten years before they married. Henry worked for a time, cir 1905, in the wheat fields of North Dakota. There he claimed to see it 'rain fish'. Strong wind would blow across a nearby lake and carry the little minnows out of it. He also worked for the railroad in Chicago. After returning here, he worked for the C&O Railroad.Henry & Maude moved into their house in 1923. It was originally built by some of Henry's relatives, the Hatfield's. It was already about 100 years old. The family had big gardens, raised pigs, cows, and chickens. During the Depression (1929-1934), Blacks and Hobos would pass by their home on their way to the railroad station at Inez, about 1/4 mile away.
Maude would often feed them cornbread and milk.
