My grandfather, Theodore Harrison Mabe (3-18-01 to 1-4-89) married Barbara
Newlin (7-29-14 to 3-24-87). I believe they married in January of 1934.
They had six children: Theodora Harrison Mabe (b.8-17-34), Judith Eleanor
(11-15-3?), Meredith Ann (10-14-3?), John Elliot (10-28-38), Barbara Adair
(7-17-40), and James Crews (11-21-41). Barbara Adair is my mother.

Pop Pop Mabe met my grandmother in Pennsylvania. They came to settle in
Maryland and several of their children and grandchildren still reside there.

Pop's father was Joseph Mabe, d. 1934, and his mother was Mary Rebecca Bolt,
d.1902

I could only get as far back as Joseph Mabe, so maybe you could help me
here.

I have more info on the Bolts, but I'm not sure of the reliability. Mary
Bolt's father was Harrison Bolt. His parents were John Bolt and Rebecca
Dillard. Rebecca Dillard's father was John Dillard and paternal
grandparents were Nicholas Dillard and Ann. Perhaps you can verify this for
me.

Pop Mabe was in the military and probably joined before he was of age to.
He told of being in the cavalry, but Uncle Jim says he was in every branch
of the military, not just the army-can't substantiate this. Also Pop talked
about being a hobo and hopping trains. I also recall him talking about how
he had been to Panama, which I suspect happened while he was in the
military.

I lived with my Pop and Grand mom Mabe for 14 years of my childhood, but they
tended not to talk much about the past. Pop was also known to spin a good
yarn. I know Grand mom used to drive Pop down to his family in Max Meadows,
Virginia, every so often to stay with family, but I don't know much about
it.

Also, a family rumor is that Pop had married someone before my grandmother,
which isn't impossible, because he didn't marry her until he was in his
30's. In this case, I may have some first cousins I never knew about.
Anyway, I have an extensive genealogy of the Newlin side. This goes back to
one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and beyond.

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have.
