Funeral services for Mrs. Dessie Web Cox Collins, 87, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Max Meadows who died Monday, will be held today (Thursday) at 2pm in the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Kenneth Abbott officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.

Mrs. Collins was the widow of David Dewey Collins.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Russell (Ethel) Rickey of Max Meadows, two stepsons, Dewey F. Collins of Oak Hill, West Virginia and John F. Collins of West Carrollton, Ohio; four stepdaughters, Mrs. H.G. (Margaret) Counts, Mrs. Robert (Nadine) Stein both of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Carl (Bonnie) Nichols of Xenia, Ohio and Mrs. David (Betty) Carter of Roanoke; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, fourteen step-grandchildren, and twenty-three step great-grandchildren also survive.

Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville.

Dessie was first married to a Cox who is the father of Ethel married to Russell Rickey. Dessie and David Collins had no children together. The other step-children mentioned were David's and his first wife's which adds Margaret, Nadine and Betty. The additional step children bring the number of children for David and his first wife to 7, which matches information related to me by Mary Kay Mabe who met with and spoke to Bonnie Collins Nichols. Bonnie said she was one of 7 children!! Believe step-son Dewey was the one known as Buz Collins.

Subject: Some new info

Mary Jo,

Wanted to wish you a Happy Easter and let you know that I got some new
information from Bonnie Collins Nichols. RE: David Dewy Collins' wives
- Annie M. Hale died Mary 23, 1933. She is buried in the Mabe Cemetery on Peppers Ferry Road. David and Annie were married on June 13 instead of the 19th. David Dewy remarried to Dessie Webb Cox sometime around 1936. Bonnie brought both her father and step mother to Dayton, Ohio in 1981. He lived two months before he died Dessie had Alzheimer's, had to be put in a nursing home after David died and she died here in Dayton as well.

Thought you would want that for your records. Bonnie has her father's Bible with information about her parents and siblings. If you want the information, I'll ask her about it again for you. Take care.
Mary Kay
