Laura Collins Thacker, 93, of Austinville, died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at the residence of her daughter, Louise Thacker in Roanoke.
Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 30 at 2:30 p.m. at the West End Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Long officiating.
She was born in Max Meadows, a daughter of the late Carter Braxton and Laura Ellen Whisman Collins, and was a member of the Austinville Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chaffin C. Thacker; and a son, Fred A. Thacker.
Survivors include two daughters, Madeleine Thacker of Austinville, and Louise Thacker of Roanoke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Chaffin C. Jr. and Lorene Thacker of Austinville, Billy B. and Frances Thacker of Austinville, and Bobby M. and Janie Thacker of Jefferson City, Tenn.; eight grandchildren,
Larry W. Thacker of Max Meadows, Curtis R. Thacker of Richmond, John L. Thacker of Henderson, N.C., Edward C. Thacker, Robert C. Thacker, both of Charlotte, N.C., Lisa T. Anderson of Newark, Del., William R. Thacker of Carlisle, Pa., and Laura Huchens of Memphis, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Ian Anderson, Nancy Thacker, and Nathan Thacker; two sisters, Lillie C. Lawson of Woodlawn, and Ida C. Stoots of Suffolk; and two special friends, Emma Jones and Patsy Pyron.
The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Lead Mines Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 502, Austinville, Va. 24312.

Lillie Mae Lawson

Lillie Mae Lawson, 88, of Woodlawn, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at her home in Woodlawn.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Chapel in Galax. Interment was in the West End Cemetery in Wytheville with Elder Joe McGrady officiating.

She was born in Wythe County on May 17, 1909, a daughter of the late Carter Braxton Collins and Mary Naomi Galyean Collins.

She is survived by her husband, Roy L. Lawson of Woodlawn; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Mason and Katheryn Lawson of Galax, and R.F. and Zollie Lawson of Woodlawn; a sister, Ida C. Stoots of Sulfork; three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pipers Gap Rescue Squad.

Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax was in charge of the arrangements.
