W. Sherman Martin Sr.
W. Sherman Martin Sr., 65, of Roanoke, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, after a
lengthy illness.
Services will be held at Windsor Hills Baptist Church on Monday, Nov. 10,
at 11 a.m. with the Rev. C. Lawrence Dodson, the Rev. Ron Sutherland, and
the Rev. Noland Teague officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood
Memorial Park. Military honors will be by V.F.W. Post No. 1264.
He was retired from PYA-Monarch, Salem. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Imojean F. Martin; a son and daughter-in-law,
William S. II and Martha A. Martin of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law,
Dawn M. and Edsel D. Stanley Jr. of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Edsel D.
Stanley III, William A. Stanley, Alexandra S. Martin, Marshall T. Stanley,
and William T. Martin, all of Roanoke; his mother, Winnie C. Martin of
Wytheville; two brothers, Danny
Martin of Killeen, Texas, and V.C. Martin II of Max Meadows; two sisters
and brother-in-law, Blanche M. and Zaine Gray of Chesapeake, and Judy M.
Stevens of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a sister-in-law, Peggy M. Eversole of
Wytheville.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. and
Sunday, Nov. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, Roanoke.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Good Samaritan
Hospice.
Oakey's South Chapel in Roanoke is in charge of the arrangements.

Daphne Dunford Alley, 61, of 4152 Old Baltimore Road, Draper, Va. and formerly of the Piney Community (Wythe County), died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Wythe County on October 2, 1945 and was the daughter of the late Roy Dunford and Mary Frye Dunford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Alley and by a sister, Judy Burnette. She was an employee of Jefferson Mills with 34 years of service. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Brenda Alley, Max Meadows; special friend and companion, Harry Dishon, Jr., Draper; sister, Effie Dunford, Wytheville; brother and sister-in-law, Roy Lee "Tom Tink" and Marie Dunford, Wytheville; stepgrandchild, Cole Barker, Max Meadows; several nieces and nephews; several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Brian Wyke and the Rev. Hal Lewis officiating. Visiting will be Friday at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Piney. The family wishes that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Lead Mines Rescue Squad, Austinville. The family will be meeting at the residences of Harry Dishon, Jr., 4152 Old Baltimore Road, Draper or Sam and Brenda Alley, 3281 Major Grahams Road, Max Meadows. SALLY ALLEY COLLINS, age 63, a resident of Wytheville Manor, formerly of Ivanhoe, Virginia died Tuesday, October 17, 2000, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Howard and Guide Mabe Alley. She was a member of the Ivanhoe Pentecostal Church and was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Alley, a sister-in-law, Barbara Sue Alley. She is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law - Susie and Mike Horton of Wytheville, VA; a son and daughter-in-law - Danny and Patricia Collins; seven grandchildren - Ty Horton, Sierra Horton, Santanna Horton, Jessica Collins and fiancé Doc Testerman, Cameron Collins, Brittney Stamper and Troy Stamper; two sisters and brother-in-law - Nancy and Danny Akers of Rt. 3, Wytheville and Gypsy Alley of Ivanhoe; three brothers and sister-in-law - Wilson and Wanda Alley, Mickey Alley and Rickey Alley all of Ivanhoe, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 20, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville, VA. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Reese Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Reese Funeral Home in Austinville, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Alley; one sister, Sally Alley; and one brother, Harry Alley. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara "Barbie" Alley, and Crystal "Crissy" Alley, both of Ivanhoe, Va.; one son, Mickey Harold "Little Mick" Alley Jr. of Ivanhoe, Va.; two sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy and Danny Akers of Ivanhoe, Va., and Gypsy Alley of Sparta, N.C.; two brothers and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Wanda Alley, and Rickey Alley, all of Ivanhoe, Va.; two grandchildren, Treva Sayers and Devin Conley; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home or at the home of Nancy Akers at any time.
