Mr. Thomas Reese Ferrell, 89, of 3646 Westwood Drive in Martinez, Ga., died Thursday evening at his residence after an extended illness.

orn March 19, 1913 in Canada, Ky., he was the son of the late James Hamilton Ferrell and Ema Jean Mabe Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell was a carpenter in the building industry, was a member of the Carpenters Union ץ, and was a member of the New Life Church of God.

urviving are his wife, Hazel Wilson Ferrell of the home; four sons, Thomas Wayne Ferrell and David Haynes Ferrell, both of Martinez, Ga., Larry Edward Ferrell of Greensboro, N.C. and Roy Daniel Ferrell of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Dora Blackburn of Charleston, S.C. and Alma Tuten of Estill, S.C. There are eight grandchildren.

William Michael "Tom Dooley" Jefferson, 45, of Ivanhoe, Va., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, in the Pulaski Community Hospital, Pulaski, Va.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Reese Funeral Home Chapel in Austinville, Va., with the Rev. Hal Lewis and the Rev. Ronald "Bobo" Gravley officiating. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Ivanhoe, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. Mabe and Katherine L. Bond; a brother, Clinton Orren; his adopted stepfather, Sam Jefferson; and his grandparents, George and Ruby Burchett.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Jefferson of the home; two sons, Michael George Jefferson of Hillsville, Va., and Nathan Hobert Jefferson of Fries, Va.; stepfather, Robert Bond of Fries, Va.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Roger Collins, and Debbie and Virgil McMickle, all of Ivanhoe, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.

e was a native of Minnesota, the widower of Margaret Payne Jelle, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a former employee of Standard Oil of Indiana and retired from IDS (American Express). He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Lloyd Bible Class, and a former volunteer with Hospice of Randolph.

Mrs. Blanche Elizabeth Nichols Mabe, 65, of Winston-Salem died Friday, January 24, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center.

he was born August 11, 1937, in Rowan County and was reared by The Methodist Children's Home in Winston-Salem. She was a member of Trinity Moravian Church, where she served as chairman of the board of trustees, a diener and an usher, and was a member of the Women's Fellowship. She also was a resident of Oak Island, where she attended Oak Island Presbyterian Church,and was a partner in Myrvik Enterprises.

urviving are her husband, Ken Mabe of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Sharon Mabe Sherman and husband Bruce of Walnut Cove and Terri Mabe and fiancé Tony Mankins of Winston-Salem; a grandson, David Bruce Sherman Jr.; two sisters, Frances Basinger of Salisbury and Shirley Lucas of Lexington; two brothers, Billy Nichols and Ray Nichols, both of Salisbury; a half-brother, A. Mrs. Emmie Snyder Mabe, 72, a resident of 109 Chase Ave., died March 23, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.

he was born April 27, 1930, in Davidson County, a daughter to Mack and Ruth Poole Mabe.

resident of this area all her life, she was of the Methodist faith. After 20 years of service, she retired from Alma Desk in 1992. She was a very independent person who loved sports and will be missed by her friends at Heart Strides.

Ethel B. Mabe, 93, Raytown, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

s. Mabe was born Jan. 8, 1905, in Stover, Mo. She had been a sales clerk for several department stores on The Plaza and in the Kansas City area. She was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Mabe in 1952, and a son, Rolland G. "Jerry" Mabe in 1992.

r survivors include two grandsons, Steve Mabe, Blue Springs, and Eric Oaks, Kansas City; one sister, Geraldine Avise, Raytown; and three great-grandchildren.

GRACE EMMALINE MABE -- Mrs. Grace Emmaline Mabe, 62, of Cedar Bluff, died at a Richlands hospital

ednesday, Dec. 1st. 1965 She was born in North Carolina, a daughter of the late Robert and Nellie Newman Sanders and a member of the Freewill Baptist church. Her husband Charlie Edward Mabe, preceded her in death in 1943. She was making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Burl Trent, Cedar Bluff, at the time of her death. Survivors include three children: Mrs. Burl Trent, Cedar Bluff, Ralph Mabe, Baltimore, Md. and Roger Mabe, Oxen Hill, Md.; two sisters. Mrs. Cora Sparks, Richlands, and Mrs. Pearl Fields, Kingsport, Tenn; two brothers, Carl Sanders, Williamsburg, and Calvin Sanders, Keen Mountain; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Hurst-Scott Chapel. Friday at 2 with Rev. H. D. Hampton in charge. Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill. Pallbearers were: Richard Cole, George and Joe Griffith, Bill Mabe, Bobbie Sanders and Roy Artrip.

DOREN L. MABE died August 30, 1963, when a motorcycle he was riding went out of control and struck a utility pole throwing the rider through a plate glass window on lower McDowell Street. Doren was a 1962 graduate of Welch High School. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Roderick Mabe, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Rogers of Welch.

He also was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and a former ranger for Oak Valley Golf Course.

Lonnie V. Mabe, 47, of 314 Charles Ave. died July 17, 2000, as a result of a boating accident at Lake Thom-A-Lex.

e was born June 16, 1953, in High Point, a son of Carl and Ezlee Brown Mabe, who preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of High Point and a graduate of High Point Central High School. He was employed by Prelude Fiber for 20 years. He was a member of Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church. He was a loving husband, a playful father, and had many special friends. He enjoyed fishing, which he was doing at the time of his death with his friend, Butch Carter. He was a member of the James "J.J." Caudle Racing Team and an Earnhardt fan. He and his family often camped at Thousand Trails Campground in Advance. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bobby Peters.

urviving are his wife, LaVerne Sutherland Mabe of the residence; three daughters, Amber Renee "Burr" Mabe, Katherine Marie "Kit-Kat" Mabe and Tracey Darlene "T.D." Mabe, all of the residence; a sister, Judy Pollard of Bethel; two aunts, Sallie Dockery of High Point and Louise Brown and her husband, George, of Kansas City, Mo.; his dog, Precious; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

ae Belle Butner Mabe, 80, of Pfafftown died at the home of her daughter June 3. She was born in Forsyth County February 16, 1922, to Alvis Eugene Butner and Irene Melton Butner. She worked at Hill's Lexington Barbecue Inc. for several years as a waitress. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Luther Hicks; and her second husband, Roy Mabe.

urviving are three daughters, Wilma Jordan of Germanton, Carolyn Beeson of Winston-Salem and Georgia Ann Butterfield of Texas; three sons, Albert "Buddy" Hicks of King and Sammy Hicks and George Hicks, both of Pfafftown; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vinea E. Mabe of Lunsford, 86, died Tuesday morning at the Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City where she had resided for the past two and a half years. Born in Fulton Co. near Salem, Mrs Mabe moved to Craighead Co. in 1932 and lived most of her life in the Lake City-Lunsford area. She was a retired employee of Slant & Slant Corp. in Trumann and was a member of the Lake City Asasembly of God Church where she was a member of the Women's Missionary Group. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Mabe, one son, James Mabe and four grandchildren, Paul Wayne Hall, Sandra Gail Rand, Tammy Griggs and Thomas F. Riggs. Mrs. Mabe is survived by six daughters, Mry Evelyn Griggs of Bay, Edna Mae Barnett of Newark, Mildred Dillinger of Elizabeth, Ruby Story of Jonesboro, Joyce Jones of Black Oak and Martha Johnson of Joliet, MO; three sons, Samuel Mabe of Bay, Leroy Mabe of Trumann and Walter Mabe of Viola; 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:00p.m. at the Lake City Assembly of God Church with Rev. Raymond Clark and Rev. Van Gilbert officiating. Burial followed at the Monette Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Lake City. Mrs. Mabe's grandsons served as pallbearers.

URE -- Walter General Puckett, 65, of Little Island Road, died Oct. 2, 2002, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

r. Puckett was born in Switzer, W.Va., and was the son of the late Caney Murphy and Kathryne Marie Mabe Puckett. A retired brick mason, he owned and operated Puckett's Masonry for 40 years, was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness faith, and had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

urviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Holmes Puckett; two daughters, Rhonda Puckett Lilley and husband Kenneth of Windsor, N.C., and Karen Puckett Mills and husband Barry of Eure; a son, Ricky Puckett and wife Mary of Richlands, Va.; two brothers, Don Puckett of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Frank Puckett of Colonial Heights, Va.; seven grandchildren, James Puckett, Tonya Puckett, Douglas Puckett, Crystal Puckett, Walter Farmer, Kimberly Farmer and Brandon Farmer; and a great-grandchild, Lorelei Puckett. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryne Marie Puckett.

harles "Freddie" Rheubottom Jr., 63, of Sykesville, died Thursday, March 11, 2004. Born November 21, 1940, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Charles "Butt" and Evelyn Rheubottom. He was the husband of Mary Mabe-Rheubottom of Sykesville.

e had been employed by the Baltimore Luggage Company, Henryton Center and London Fog. He was well known throughout the area for his talent of playing the piano and organ. He was the organist for many churches which included White Rock and Fairview United Methodist Churches. He was also involved in a band known around Maryland as Everyday People. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, his family and friends. He lived life to the fullest.

urviving in addition to his wife are children Lanise Deshields, Donell Rheubottom and Chanel Rheubottom, all of Sykesville, Tashika Abrecht of Frederick and Freda Rheubottom of Colorado, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Rhonda Rheubottom of Sykesville, aunt Bernice Slaughter of Westminster, mother-in-law and traveling partner Ann Mabe of Sykesville, 5 grandchildren, 3 nephews, 4 nieces, and many cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services were held March 15, 2004, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville with Rev. Lloyd Marcus officiating. Interment in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville.

Squire W. Sams

FRANKLINVILLE - Squire Woodrow Sams, 82, of 6627 Old Liberty Road, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001.

uneral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cool Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Harmon and the Rev. Keith Bischer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

e was a native of Stokes County, the widower of Mary Mabe Sams, was retired from Guy Turner, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and he attended Cool Springs Baptist Church.

urviving are stepson, Kenneth Homes of Franklinville; stepdaughters, Gladys Jarvis of Regis Falls, N.Y., Margaret Daniels of Asheboro, Janette Allred, Rhoda Harmon, both of Franklinville; brother, Roy Sams of Trinity; 21 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

LILLIE LUCILLE ROBERTS SAYERS

Lillie Lucille Roberts Sayers, age 74 of 1013 Floyd Lane, Pulaski passed away Nov. 15, 2003 at the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born April 29, 1929 in Ivanhoe, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence S. and Sarah Mabe Roberts. She was also preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters.

urviving are: her husband, Matthew Joseph Sayers, Pulaski; son Matthew Joseph Sayers, Jr., Pulaski; two grandsons; four great grandchildren.

uneral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Donald and Eleanor Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Fellows Cemetery (Ivanhoe, Va.) The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Tuesday.

George C. Simpson Sr.

George C. Simpson Sr., 60, of 914 West Parkins Mill Road, Winchester, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

r. Simpson was born July 14, 1941, in Manassas, the son of Samuel G. and Annie Lee Cornwell Simpson. He retired from Lamar Sloan Ford, where he worked in the auto paint and body shop.

e married Corlis Mabe on Aug. 30, 1963, in Leesburg.

urviving with his wife, are a daughter, Kathy Fink of Highview, W.Va.; a son, Conway Simpson of Winchester; three brothers, Lou Simpson of Woodbridge, Samuel G. Simpson Jr. of Manassas, and Elwood Simpson of Sterling; and two grandchildren.

funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. David B. Duckworth officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Marsha Leigh Mabe Tuttle Marsha Leigh Mabe Tuttle, 44, of Winston-Salem died August 19 at her home. She was born March 28, 1960, in Forsyth County to William Lee Mabe Sr. and Betty Nicholson Honeycutt. She fought a long and hard battle with breast cancer. She enjoyed life to the fullest extent and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Surviving are her husband, Keith Tuttle of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Leigh Tuttle of the home; a son, Tony Alan Mabe of Polkton; her father, William Lee Mabe Sr. of Winston-Salem; her mother, Betty Honeycutt of Rural Hall; her grandmother, Rosalie Rash of King; two sisters, Vickie Mabe of Walnut Cove and Kathy Tesh of Winston-Salem; three brothers, William Lee Mabe Jr. of Clemmons and Timothy Charles Mabe and Robert Lewis Mabe, both of Rural Hall; and several nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Teague officiating.
