Descendants of Robert Mabe, Jr

8. LARKIN4 MABE (ROBERT3, ROBERT2, WILLIAM1) was born December 19, 1826 in North Carolina, and died Bet. 1910 - 1920 in Missouri. He married JULIA ANN SNODGRASS January 06, 1853 in Randolph County, Illinois. She was born 1828 in Tennessee, and died Bet. 1870 - 1880.

Notes for L
ARKIN MABE:

1Larkin has only been seen in the "Lost Children of Wythe Co". His name did
not appear in any Va. census records, although it is believed that he was
enumerated with his mother Polly in the 1830 Stokes Co., NC census and with
the family of his brother Alexander/Elkin in the 1840 Wythe Co., Va. census
(along with his mother).

Jim Mabe offered this:
I think I might know where Larkin went. There is a Larkin that lived in
Illinois and was married to a Julia Snodgrass. They were living in Illinois in
the 1860s and 1870s. By the turn of the century they or their children settled
in Missouri.

1860 Illinois census record, Randolph Co., page 768:
Mabe, Larkin 32 born NC=1828
Julia 32 born TN=1828
John P. 6 born IL-1854
Mary C. 3, born IL=1857
Sarah 1/12 born IL=1860
Larkin was born in the right time and state to be Polly and Robert, Jr's
son Larkin.

The information Jim related above about Larkin being in Illinois can be
found at this website, owned by John Schehrer, schehrer@hotmail.com:
http://www.clandjop.com/~jscherer/
This site only listed Larkin, his wife and one son, Robert Alexander.

Given his age and place of birth in the 1860 census, we are assuming this
is a good match and adding this 1860 information and that found at John's
website.

It also appears that this Larkin is the same one that is listed in the Robert
Alexander Mabe report (his son).

Happy Holidays all,
Hope everyone survived the Y2K non-event. I was pretty busy for most of the
month of December.
I think I found Larkin's birth date. I was looking through a book that
listed the Cemeteries of Christian County, MO and lo and behold a Larkin
Mabe is buried in the Hammond Cemetery of that County. On the tombstone is
his birth date of December 19, 1826, but there is no death date. The
Cemetery opened in 1870, so we can assume that he died after that date.
There are other Mabes buried in the same cemetery, but I have no records
connecting them to a family.

HAMMOND-HIGHLANDVILLE CEMETERY
Mabe, Larkin Dec 19 1826 Infant
Based on what Jim reported in his email above, this would be a birth date and the inclusion of the word infant has to be wrong. Notice the cemetery wasn't opened until 1870.

More About L
ARKIN MABE:
Burial: Hammond Cemetery, Christian County, Missouri

Children of L
ARKIN MABE and JULIA SNODGRASS are:
  i.   JOHN P.5 MABE, b. Abt. 1856.
  Notes for JOHN P. MABE:
This couple was found in the Hammond-Highlandville Cemetery and in the Christian County, Missouri Marriages on the Christian County, Missouri web site. They are buried the same cemetery as Larkin Mabe who I assume is J.M's father. In the 1860 Illinois census Larkin listed a son name John P. who I cannot find anywhere after that census. This is a stretch. Larkin's brother Alexander "Elkin" Mabe is also buried there. It also could be his son, James Anderson Mabe. He was born in 1857.

9. NANCY4 MABE (ROBERT3, ROBERT2, WILLIAM1) was born Abt. 1830 in North Carolina. She married ANSELM O. LEWIS March 26, 1850 in Wythe County, Virginia. He was born Abt. 1828 in North Carolina.

Notes for N
ANCY MABE:

Mary Kay Mabe sent this marriage information and was later responsible for
showing that she was the daughter of Robert/Polly, not William/Prudence as
I had assumed. William and Prudence had sons (two named William) who were
far too young to be the one named on this marriage record and Mary Kay
showed that only William we had who could have been her brother, was the
William she lived with in 1840.

Wythe County marriage book - Nancy Maybe married to Anselm O. Lewis on
March 26, 1850 in Wythe County, brother - William.

She fits the girl, age 5-9 born between 1831-1835 who was living in the
William Mabe/Prudence King household in 1840. That girl did not appear in
the 1850 census and this Nancy married to Ansalum Lewis matches her age,
was married in 1850 and listed in the 1850 census with her husband.

Nancy has to be a daughter of Robert and Polly and now accounts for another
child in the 1830 census living with Polly. Her ages in those census
records place her dob closer to 1830 and her father's dod closer to 1830.
