William Cook
William (Jack) Cook, 73, of 600 Nadeau Road, died at 2:10am yesterday in Monroe Hospital, where he had been since Monday. He had been in poor health eight months and seriously ill five weeks.

He was born May 3, 1879, at Maynardville, Tenn., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Cook. March 10, 1900 he married Matilda Whited at Maynardville. She died Aug 4, 1934. He married Clara Sears April 2, 1937 at Monroe.

In 1926 he came to Monroe from Maynardville. For many years he operated a grocery at Peters St. and Fernwood Dr.

His is survived by his wife, Clara, two sons, Ted, with whom he lived, and Ulys of Hillsdale; two daughters, Mrs. Dewey Graves of Knoxville, and Mrs. George Mabe of Frenchtown Township; a brother R. H. Cook of Verden Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Baker of Pratt, Kansas, and Mrs. Curtis Braden of Maynardville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One son, Wayne, died in infancy.

Services will at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Earle Little Funeral Home and 1:20 in the Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. E. E. Patterson will officiate. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral for Matilda Cook

Mrs. Matilda Cook was buried in Memorial Park cemetery this morning following funeral services from the home at Glenwood and Peters Street. The Rev. E. Wollman officiated. Mrs. Cook died in the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Saturday evening.

Bessie Mabe, 90, of Monroe, passed away August 25, 1997.

Born in June 10, 1907, she was the daughter of William Preston Cook and Matilda (Whited) Cook, in Union County, Tennessee. She had lived in Monroe since 1951.

She was married to Earnie Fultz on September 4, 1923, who passed away April 5, 1932. She was married to George Mabe on June 18, 1934, who passed away on February 21, 1961.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxine Berry, a grandson, Ernie Johnson; a great-Grandson, Jonathan Loop; two son-in-laws, Jewel Berry and George Cunningham.

She is survived by her children and their spouses; Anna Talsma, Wanda Weiler and husband Lee, Mary Cunningham, John Mabe (all of Monroe), Betty Matousek and husband Duane, Jim Mabe and wife Beverly, and Jack Mabe (all of Dallas, Texas); grandchildren, Mike Berry of Atlanta, Patricia Berry of San Diego, Brenda Reed, Faye Morrison, Sandy Hayter, Ted Wieler, Shari Weiler (all of Monroe) Scott Weiler of Vista California, Kevin Cunningham, Lisa Wallace (both of Dallas), great-grandchildren, Lora Lacy, Jennifer Berry, Dr. Scott Johnson, Melissa Stewart, Christian Tobert, Corey Tolbert, Joshua Loop, Lindsay Hayter, Jamie Hayter, Alisha Weiler, Larissa Weiler, Tonya Weiler, Brett Weiler, Brittany Weiler, Eric Weiler, Jason Weiler, Jeremiah Weiler, Tammy Weddle, Chelsey Weiler, Spencer Weiler, Kenneth Cunningham, and Heath Cunningham; great-great grandchildren Kayla Powell, Tyler Lacy, Alex Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Sydney Stewart, Aubrey Weiler, and Christina Weddle.

George W. Mabe, 68, of 2370 Nadeau Road, died of a heart attack at 12:06 p.m. yesterday in Monroe Hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Earl Littel Funeral Home, with the Rev. E.E. Patterson, pastor of the Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Born Oct. 20, 1892, in Claiborne County, Tenn., he was the son of John and Louisa Mabe. He married Bessie Cook in 1935 at Bowling Green, Ohio, and they came to Monroe from Jefferson County, Tenn. Mr. Mabe was a retired watchman for Gould-National Batteries, Inc.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, John, James, Jack at home; three daughters, Mrs. Lee Weiler of Ida, Mrs. George Cunningham of Monroe, and Miss Betty Mabe at home; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Jewell Berry and Mrs. Boyd Johnson of Monroe; a sister, Mrs. Amanda Gibson of Pineville, Ky.; two grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

TAZEWELL, Tenn - Mrs. Ted (Georgie Mabe) Cook, 58, of Roue 3, Tazewell, formerly of Monroe, died Friday in the University of Tennessee Hospital, Knoxville, Tenn. after a long illness,

Funeral services will be at 2 pm Monday in the Chittum Chapel Church in Tazewell where her body will lie in state from noon to time of the services. The Rev. Radon Howard will officiate and burial will in the Irish Memorial Gardens in Tazewell. Cook's Mortuary of Maynardville, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cook was a member of the Monroe Chapter 226, Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. She had lived in Monroe since she was 15 and moved to Tennessee six years ago.

Surviving are her husband; a brother Rev. James T. Mabe of Tazewell; five sisters Chelcie Rayburn and Mrs. Nell Nickens of Tazewell; Mrs. Maude Marlow and Mrs. Bertha Marlow of Monroe and Mrs. Betty Riddle of Grays, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.
