I was looking for Maclarens who had died in the two world wars, so I went to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site. So in case it might help anyone else I have included the information on all the Maclarens below. Knowing that the Mac and Mc are often confused I checked on the Mc as well. There where over four hundred of them, and I have included the basic information of these veterans. However since I was looking for specific relatives I only checked the details on the officers and a few others. I have include those details below, since I got it in my search. I hope any relations of the others will forgive me, but getting the details of all of them was more than I could do, but I would be very please to add it if anyone else has time to get them all. Given the sensitive nature of this information I checked with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission about putting this information on this web site They very kindly said I could with some very reasonable conditions. I hope anyone who comes to this site will also respect those conditions, this is part of what they said: "I confirm that I am happy for you to use the information provided there is a credit to the Commission for the origination of the records, that the records will not be used for commercial gain and that no advertising of any sort appears where the records are hosted. I am sure that you will understand when I say that due to the very sensitive nature of the information in the records, the Commission does not allow any use of them that might cause distress or "devalue" the information or services we provide." "My thanks for your interest in our work and my best wishes in your attempts to widen knowledge of these men's achievements, thereby fulfilling the Commission's primary role - to ensure that Their Name Liveth For Evermore." Information found from the web site of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. http://www.cwgc.org/ 2 Marlow Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6 7DX, United Kingdom Telephone: +44 1628 634221 Fax: +44 1628 771208. A very thorough Web site with a lot of information (and links) about the Commission and related publications Under the "Address" link many suggestions "FURTHER INFORMATION relating to casualties of the two world wars (service & operational records, historical background) may be obtained from the agencies listed below. Most take written enquiries only." In the DEBT OF HONOUR REGISTER http://yard.ccta.gov.uk/cwgc/register.nsf "This Register provides personal and service details and places of commemoration for the 1.7 million members of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First or Second World Wars." This has a database that you can search by name to find someone. Along with information about the casualties there is also history of their cemetery/memorial and detailed directions of how to get there.
