I've just begun the genealogy search for my roots and am looking for information on the following surnames: MacLeay - came to Buffalo from Canada. My husband's grandfather originally came to Buffalo from Canada to be the drum major in a local Scottish marching unit. Shepardson - settled in Little Falls, NY but originally from New England. My grandfather was William, married to Mary Fogarty (her parents came from Ireland to Fonda, NY). His father was named Charles who married Elizabeth Randall. Sullivan - came to Florence, NY from Bandon, Ireland in 1800's, possibly to help build Erie Canal, as their first child was born in 1835 in Florence. Their names were John Sullivan and Ellen Brim and they had 10 children. O'Brien - also came to Florence, NY from Ireland in 1800's. My grandfather was John O'Brien whose parents were Patrick O'Brien and Mary Regan. Patrick's parents wer born in Ireland, his father, Michael, in 1812 and his mother, Margaret Donovan, in 1813. I'm not sure of the region. Mary Regan's parents also were born in Ireland. Her father, Michael, in 1814 and her mother, Mary Fox in 1829. |
