Notes for William "Deacon"Ross: Historical Notes;
In the year 1818,some settlers came from Glen Urquhart,in Invernessshire in the Highlands of Scotland to Blue Mountain,Pictou County,Nova Scotia.Amongst them were William "Deacon"Ross and the elder of his seven children.He gave the place it's name in Gaelic,"Bhean Gorm" .In Gaelic blue and green are almost synonymous and it was really Green Mountain that he intended it to be. In 1917 A.Sterling Gunn (died October 14 1959) visited Glen Urquhart and there met an Alex Ross who was wharfinger at that Point-(Temple Pier Loch Ness).He said his grandfather was a brother of William Ross,but he could not give the exact date of emigration. It was John Peter Campbell (March 12 1866-December 1914) who gave the organ to the Blue Mountain Church when it was built in 1906,as they did not have one in the old church.Mrs Reverand Jobb was the first Organist.
