IT'S A BOY! Ian Andrew Macdonald was born Halloween, 1998, at 12:42 PM. He weighed just shy of 8 pounds at birth (7 lb., 15 oz.) and measured 19 inches long. This is the genealogical home page of the Murrie and Macdonald families. We are searching for the ancestors of Susan Murrie and Edward Macdonald, specifically the ancestors and descendants of David Murrie of Perthshire and James Van Dusen Macdonald of the Isle of Skye. We are also interested in the Carswell family of Canada, the Slocum family, the Lozier family, the Mullens and Agar families of England, the Rogers (originally Rogies) family of Belgium, the Elmendorf family of Germany, and the White family of Ireland.
James Van Dusen Macdonald emigrated to the United States after the Jacobite Uprising of 1745. His family settled in the New York/New Jersey area. Edward B. Macdonald and Ian A. Macdonald are his descendants.
David Murrie was a farmer and pit sawyer in Perthshire, Scotland. His sons John and David emigrated to the United States. John Murrie married Jane Murray, and their son Grant Murrie married Nellie Slocum. Their son William Murrie married schoolmarm Verna White, and their son Gerald Murrie is the father of Susan Murrie Macdonald, who is the mother of Ian Andrew Macdonald.
Many thanks to Randy Weeks, Grace Olson, Harold Slocum, and Ruth Jack, who did much of the genealogical research which appears here.
THE GREAT SLOCUM DEBATE: Philip vs. Anthony Slocombe There is a question whether the Rev. Peleg Slocum (son-in-law of Quaker martyr Christopher Holder) is the grandson of Philip Slocombe or Anthony Slocombe. This debate can be quite heated at times, making it one of the more vicious (and petty) "flame-wars" on the Internet. My personal opinion is that Peleg Slocum was the son of Giles Slocum and Joan Cook, and that Giles was the son of Anthony Slocombe and Agnes Harvey. However, for those who wish to check out the other point-of-view, I recommend the following websites: www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/l/o/Douglas-A-Slocum, www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/l/o/Melvin-Slocum, and www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/e/l/Judith-A-Delaine.
