My grandfather Allan Cameron MacDonald was born 1890 in Grimsay, Benbecula, Western Isles, Scotland. Although he had 12 brothers & sisters none of his siblings' descendants stayed on this island. Elder half brother Donald MacDonald b.1874 emigrated to Montana, Neil b.1878 emig to Seattle. William b.1881 was a policeman in Lochgilphead. The others were Mary Belle 1883, Ewen 1886, Marion 1888, Sarah 1893, Flora 1895 and Isabella 1901. My ggggrandfather Donald MacDonald b.1796 was a crofter at Liniclate, Benbecula.
My mother's MacLeod ancestors moved around a bit more so are proving a bit more difficult to trace. My gggrandfather Donald MacLeod married Margaret Livingston from Mull. In 1861 they are living on Sanday island in Canna. Two sons Lachlan and William married in Uist. Kenneth went to Skye. Two daughters Flora and Margaret and possibly another son settled on Barra
