Searching for paternal family roots of Donald MACDONALD, born abt. 1836 in Nova Scotia. Married on 25 May, 1857 at Albion Mines, Jesssie MCKINNON, b. 31 Oct 1842, in Hopewell, Nova Scotia, daughter of Lauchlin & Catherine Campbell MCKINNON. Lived in Middle River,Pictou County, Nova Scotia as reported in 1871 Census. In the 1881 census they were living in Westville. Family were Scot Presbyterians. They had sons, Daniel, Lauchlin, James and John. Daughters, Catherine, Jessie, Mary Jane, and Abigail. Jessie McKinnon MCDONALD married James ROY, 17 Jan 1902, after the death of Donald. James Roy had a son from a previous marriage and his name was Andrew ROY. Jessie ROY died 16 June 1915 in Boston, was buried in Westville, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. The cemetery is named St. Philips, but had been Mt. Carmel Presbyterian. She was 72 years old at death. The family lived in Sydney, Cape Breton, Middle River, and in the Westville, Nova Scotia areas. Donald was a miner. In the 1901 Pictou County Census there is only one listing: Westville #3, Home #47, Jessie McDonald listed as "Housekeeper", living with Mother, Catherine McKinnon. Donald died 9 September 1885 due to injuries from an accident at the Drummond Mine in Westville. |
