| My Great Grandfather Salvatore Maggio(on my father's paternal side) immigrated from Cefalu, Sicily in 1880. He left with four cousins to come to America. He first settled in New York City with his cousins. One cousin lived in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and the other in Far Rockway, Long Island. They are now deceased. Salvatore later traveled to Iberville Parish where he had relatives in White Castle and Bayou Goula. In 1898, he returned to Cefalu to marry his childhood sweetheart Vincienza Maggio(my Great-grandmother). They opened a general mecantile and fruit store along the River Road. Salvatore and Vincienza had eleven children. My Great Grandfather Pietro Antonio Latino(on my father's maternal side) immigrated from Lucca, Sicily in 1888 with his parents. He married my Great Grandmother Francesca Chiaramonte in 1906. Francesca'a father immigrated from Burgio, Sicily in 1884. His wife did not come over until 1888. My parents, sisters, and I recently visited the Island of Sicily for the second time. We stayed in the town of Cefalu and found the bakery my great grandmother left behind. We also visited the town of Burgio and the church where my great-great grandparents where married. It would be wonderful to find any lost relatives. |
