The Canadian American Magel Family Home Page

I am Ralph Magel from Newmarket Ontario Canada. Most of the Magel family that I am associated with are located in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, but there are branches in Portland Oregon, USA, Victoria, BC, Vancouver BC, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The Magels migrated from Morgentau Russia in 1900. In Russia they were known as Volga Deutch. The Volga Deutch migrated to Russia from Germany in the 1764 to 1767 and maintained their language, and religion, as an enclave along the Volga River around the present day Saratov. They only left Russia when the government tried to Russify them.
The Henry Magel branch settled south of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in Morden; where the father Henry worked as a hired hand. They then moved to Lydiatte north-east of Winnipeg and lived in a rented granary. There were 9 children, my grandfather David, was the oldest then there was Henry, Emmanuel, Jack, Alexander, Gottfried, George, Tolitha (only girl) and William. Tolitha married an Adolph.
I have located most of the immediate families of the various brothers but would be interested in any Magels or pictures of Magels in other parts of the USA and Canada or in the world.

  An early photo of Heinrich shows him after he entered Canada in 1899. He farmed in Morden Manitoba and then in Lydiatte Manitoba N.E. of Winnipeg. He was a farmer.
