* Maguire and Dooley Families of New Jersey*

Updated September 5, 2000

I have been researching the family histories of both my wife's family (Dooley) and my own for at least the last five years. I have discovered that there is a lot of information available right here in New Jersey, but I would like to expand the search into neighboring states, such as New York and Pennsylvania, and eventually into Ireland and Germany.

The Maguires initially landed in Philadelphia, and settled there in the late 19th century. John Maguire, my father, was born in Camden NJ in 1895, but was raised in Philadelphia. He met Viola Cramer, my mother, in Philadelphia. Her grandparents lived in Burlington County, New Jersey.

On my wife's side, the Dooleys immigrated to New Jersey in the early 1870s. Her mother's maiden name was Helmstetter. Both the Dooleys and the Helmstetters settled in the Newark New Jersey area, and still reside there.

Of course there are other family names in our tree, such as Doane, Schubert and Blatsch. I would be happy to share my findings with anyone who is researching
