The Mahers traveled from Ireland to Newfoundland settling in St. John's. Their new life included the unforgiving Newfoundland coast, hard work on the shore and on many fishing vessels. George Joseph Maher traveled the world over as a merchant marine. While on shore in New York, he was introduced to a 'Newfie' girl. They both traveled to New York only to find and fall in love with the kid nextdoor! George and Stella C Linegar married and had four children, George Jr., Florance, Frank Jackman Maher, and Alan. They raised their children in the Brockton-Bridgewater area of Massachusetts. Anyone with any knowledge of William, James or George Maher, please contact me by email. Other names connected to the Mahers in Newfoundland are: O'Brien, Jackman, Linegar, Harding, Stockman, Hollett, Hearn (Herne).
