Once upon a time, John and Mary Major, husband and wife, lived in Ireland, but never left to come to the states. They had at least 3 children: William (my great grandfather), John, and Charles. I have no info at all on John and Mary (where in Ireland, siblings, parents, etc.), or on their son John. William and Charles left Ireland and came to the USA, settling in Western New York in and around Skaneateles.
William married Mary Anne O'Neill (either before the voyage to the USA or after), who bore him 10 children (I have all their names, but not much other info), one of which was Patrick J. Major, my paternal grandfather, who married Mary Quigley and had four sons: Leo (born 1913, and died at age 16 on Christmas Eve, 1929 in car accident in Skaneateles, NY) Edward, born 1912 (aka Bob); William (aka Bud); and Hugh, born 1918 (aka Chip), who is my father and who is now living in Daytona Beach, FL.
Getting back to John and Mary in Ireland, their other son Charles came to the USA also, married, and apparently had three sons: Sarto, Thomas, and Peter. I have no information about Sarto Major or Peter Major's marriages or offspring, if any. Thomas apparently married and had three sons: Charles T. Major, Floyd Major (aka Red Major), and Lloyd Major (aka Blackie Major). Lloyd married someone named Clara.
I have no other info on Floyd and Lloyd. Charles T. Major married Anna ? and had a son, Charles T. Major, Jr., who is still in Skaneateles, I believe.
The Major Family file data I have uploaded to the World Family Tree database has much more information than this, of course, but I thought putting this much in here would provide enough detail to others tracing the same family lines to tell you whether we are related. Feel free to email me if you have (or need) additional info regarding the origins of the Major Family of Skaneateles in Western New York.
