The Coode family of Menheniot, Cornwall, England

My grandfather, John Griffiths Coode, was born July 29, 1873 in St. Helier, Channel Islands. Eldest son of John Charles Coode and Clara Louisa Griffiths of England and Isle of Man, he immigrated to Canada, then to San Francisco, California, where he met and married (in the state of Washington) Wilhelmina Josephine Lichtenstedt, eldest daughter of Joseph Heinrich (Henry)Lichtenstedt and Katherine (Kate) Niedhammer, both of Germany. Henry being from Hamburg and Kate from Waldenberg, possibly Wuerttemberg in Germany. Henry immigrated about 1872 and Kate about 1882. Both lived and died in San Francisco.

John Griffiths Coode joined the 54th Battalion of the 2nd Central Ontario Regiment of Canada. He died on the 20 August 1918 and is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Le Quesnel, France. Except for one brother, the rest of the Coode family remained in England. Much of the family history is published in Burkes Peerage.
