A letter dated Jan 14, 1985 from Charles T. Gotham to Arthur John Hollenbeck outlines a good portion of the Hollenbeck family going back to Casper Jacobse Halenbeck in 1620. There are various spellings of the Hollenbeck name, but according to Charles they all originated with Casper in Holbeck, Holland. The family shows up in Albany, NY around 1654.
I have verified the male history of the Hollenbeck's with information from the LDS Family Search website. This site also gave me some of the wives names, which I did not have from the letter.
William Hollenbeck is listed as one of the original settlers of Cape Vincent, NY around 1803. William is my gr. gr. gr. grandfather. He had a son named Michael Hollenbeck who married Susan Wilson. Susan's father was Warren Wilson b. 2/16/1795 and d. 12/1/1865. I am trying to verify Warren's parents.
A letter dated April 24, 1941 to Mrs. Wilma Gehres in Shipshewana,IN from Glenn Krejchik in Friendship, WI claims that Warren's parents are Moses Wilson (Willson) and Deborah Gleason who were both born in Rehoboth, MA and moved to Putney, VT. Although other sources state that Moses was born in Putney, VT. There is alot of detail about Moses father, Benjamin Willson and mother, Sarah Sabin in the letter. I have verified on three different family tree pages on Ancestry.com, Rootsweb.com and Genealogy.com that in fact Benjamin and Sarah were born in Rehoboth, MA, did live in Putney, VT, and had a son named Moses. However, one of the sites gives two marriages for Moses, neither being Deborah. Nor is there a Warren listed as a son. I'd love it if someone can find something to corrobrate or disprove for sure, the connection between Warren and Moses. Any suggestions of sources would be appreciated.
A letter dated Jan. 9, 1941 to my grandfather Hollenbeck from the same Glenn Krejick above has great detail on the connection between the Elliott's and Wilson's. Again, the information is from Warren Wilson on down. It gives Warren' wife's name as Lucy Ann Enous (possible spelling Enos). Other informaion I have gives Warren's wife's name as Lucy Ann Evans. They married between 1810 and 1820 around Ellisburg, NY.
From the mid 1800's to current, I have some information from the Judd Cemetery, Riverside Cemetery, and Brookside Cemetery in Jefferson County, NY to cooborrate dates and names of Hollenbeck, Wilson and Hodge family members.
My grandmother was a Hodge from Pamelia, NY (Later incorporated into Watertown). The Town of Pamelia directory lists her gr. grandfather, Daniel Cornwell from VT. It states he married Betsey Farr and they had 12 children. Adolphus is my grandmother's grandfather. I have found the names of the 12 children on another family tree page on Ancestry.com.
A cousin, Hodge, and I are researching the Hodge side of the family currently. My grandmother's father Robert Hodge was born in Spencerville, Ontario, Canada. We are trying to verify his father's name. We believe it to be David Allen Hodge. He died at the age of 33. Robert, his 4 brothers and mother, Betsey Robinson, moved back to NYS after David's death.
I have many marriage announcements and obituary articles for the Hodge and Hollenbeck family members. My great grandmother, Birdie Hodge, started saving them after the death of her sister in 1892.
