* The Mangham Family During the Civil War*

Updated March 22, 2008

"Oh, For a Touch of the Vanished Hand": Discovering a Southern Family and the Civil War, is the title of my recently-published book on the 37 Manghams who served in the Confederate Army from GA, AL, FL, MS, LA, and TX. See my website at http://www.mangham.org for detailed descriptions, book reviews, pictures, Table of Contents, and more!
I have done extensive research to piece together a narrative of each man's experiences during the war, and set these into the context of each man's pre- and postwar life. This provides a window into the past that should make the book interesting for anyone, not just Mangham relatives. If you are conducting research of your own, my three "how-to" sections provide information on civil and miitary records, and the interaction between the two, that you'll find invaluable.
I have expanded upon the Mangham (Mangum, Mangrum) genealogies compiled by Vaughn Ballard, Lynn Parham, and John Palmer to place each soldier into the proper familial & community context. Use my Genealogical Appendix to help you with your own research: it begins with John Mangum of Virginia (1690s) and continues through the children of the Mangham Civil War veterans. Also, you will find my 34-page bibliography will put you WELL on the way to discovering sources you need for the dozens of Deep South counties and parishes in which these families lived.
Please contact me if you wish to order a copy. Cost is $24.95 plus $3.00 S&H, with discounts for multiple copy orders. Will be glad to autograph and inscribe for you!
