A Doss researcher (and distant cousin), Barbara McKinley, tells the story about a Great Uncle who lived in Virginia and went to Minnesota during the Civil War and joined the Union Army. His brothers fought for the South. After the War her uncle in Minnesota wrote back to Virginia and wanted the book written about the Doss family. They told him it would cost $50. He wrote back that there was no Damn Doss worth $50!
