Several of us have been involved in reserching the family of John and Sarah Roe Manning of Woodford, Northants in England. This has been a labor of love and much interest. Through this, we have learned of each other and much about our family. I began this journey soon after reading my grandmother's Bible in which I found references to Mannings of Woodford. A few years ago, I bought a computer and began searching message boards for information as well as leaving messages. It wasn't but a few days when someone realized that I was asking about individuals and villages as another person. We corresponded with one another and soon came to realize that we were distant cousins. A year or so passed and then another person joined us after having read our messages and realizing that she, too, was a cousin. From humble beginnings, we have learned of our family roots and met more cousins. We are by no means finished with this task. Much remains to be done. My task is compounded by the fact that I not only descend from the Mannings of Woodford, but also am a descendent of those Mannings who settled in and about Dutchess County, New York in the very early 1700s. From this group, my branch of the family migrated northward to Vermont, then into Quebec, and on over to Ontario. |
