| EDWARD CAMPBELL: Edward Campbell, was a Highlander Scot of the powerful Campbell Clan of Argyll, Scotland. He was the first known member of this line to migrate to Charleston, South Carolina in 1788. There has been some speculation that another relative came before him, but it's unporven. He came from good, hardy stock, as his long life bears witness, he lived to be eighty years old. He was born in 1757 in Kintyre, Argyllshire, Scotland, and he died in Chumuckla, Florida, now part of Santa Rosa County. His wife was Mary McLellan, born 1759 on the Isle of Islay, south end of Outer Hebrides, Scotland, and of this union there were six children; Charles, Duncan, Mary, Daniel, Christain and unknown female child who died yount. This is their story, and a legacy for all of their descendants. William ODOM, I: The Odom surname was spelled several ways, from the earliest records it was Oldham, but it can also be spelled Odom, Odean, Odem, or Odin. My mother's line descends from William Oldham, born about 1610 in Ireland. I have traced through wills, deeds, and census records line from when William Oldham, I migrated to Norfolk, Virginia in the 1600 to another William Odom, born about 1824 in Alabama, and to my mother, born in Florida. Some speculate that William Oldham was a Quaker, this is still unproven. Our line descends thround his son, Richard Odom, born about 1625 in Norfolk County, Virginia, died about 1727 in Chowan County, North Carolina. He married a lady by the name Ann. PETER BRAY: Peter Bray was born about 1718 PETER BRAY in England, and died in Rowan or Surry County, North Carolina. Peter Bray, Sr. was a minister livingin Pasquotank Co, North Carolina. He married MARTHA SCOTT about 1742 in Bertie Co, North Carolina, the daughter of ABRAHAM SCOTT and UNKNOWN. Martha was born Abt. 1730 in Bertie Co, NC, and died in Rowan, Surry Co, NC. Peter Bray and his wife, Martha moved to Sampson County, North Carolina by 1761 and can be found listed on that County's Tax List. I've traced this line to my Grandmother Bama Bray, born 1890 in Florida who married Bert T. Campbell. A earlier research on the family was done by Edna Reece, "The Brays of Fiser River" published in 1982and a valuable resource for anyone connected to this family. Levi Wiley White: Levi White was born 1798 in South Carolina according to the 1850 Conecuh County, Alabama Census. He was living there with his wife Eliza and their ten children and we can also find him on the 1860 census for the same area. There was several other White families listed on these census and are most likely related to Levi White. We know that Levi migrated west to Texas and there is Pension and Land Bounty Record where he was awarded a large tract of land in Houston, Texas as a reward for him serving in the Battle of San Jancinto, 1836. We also know that his wife, Eliza returned to Florida and she can be found on the 1880 Santa Rosa, Florida Census living with her son, Levi White, Jr. but Levi White, Sr. was not living in the area. He may have already died, but at this time we have no information on the location of his death, whether it is in Texas, Alabama, or Florida. |
