The Family of James A ManockUpdated June 11, 2006 |
Welcome to my Family Tree! Many years ago I cam across my name in an ancient register (round about 1600) and my interest was piqued. Where did my name, which is quite rare, actually come from? When I began the research, I discovered that the family was based in Middleton, Heywood and Bury, Lancashire, from the seventeenth century onwards. Previous to that, Mannocks are found in Suffolk. The link between the two still eludes me! The information here comes from various sources, most recently being the Scottish side of the family (Villiers, Stobo etc.), obtained from Census and Birth, Marriage and Death registers available on Scotlandspeople.gov.uk If anyone has information about seventeenth century Middleton Manocks (or Maynocks or Meanocks) and their relationship to the Heywood crowd in the eighteenth century I would be very interested to hear about it. |
