Notes
HANNAH HONORA (MANNING & EPPLER) NOONAN
Born: September 23, 1858, Ireland
Died: July 21, 1927, Elmira, New York

Born Honora Noonan in Ireland to the parents, Daniel & Mary (Staplilien) Noonan. She came to the USA, to Hartford, CT and stayed with her family's friends, Nonie Hartnett of Hartford County, CT. Mrs. Hartnett and her husband owned a tobacco farm in CT, and Mrs. Hartnett worked for an insurance company in Hartford. Honora married James Manning of Ireland at the age of 16. They lived in Hartford County between 1874-76. In November 26, 1874 she gave birth to a son, William Manning. In 1876, we believe as a widow, she traveled to Elmira, NY and gave birth to her second childe, Bridget Anna Manning.

The 1880 City of Elmira Census shows Hannah Manning, as a hed of household, living at 418 E. Water Street in Elmira with her two children, William (6 years old and born in Connecticut) and Bridget (4 years old and born in Elmira). As can be seen from the City of Elmira Directory (see below), she moved around alot in those early years. Sometime around 1885, she married Oscar Eppler, a saloon keeper, and they gave birth to three children: Mary Louise Eppler in 1886, Ora Eppler in 1888, and Daniel Oscar Eppler in 1890. Traces of Oscar Eppler after 1890 disappear.

Honora, as was told from family friends, always kept in contact with family and relatives in Ireland. Nonie Hartnett of Hartford, CT visited Hanora Manning/Eppler several times in Elmira. When she visited, the Epplers had no hot water bath, so Mrs. Hartnett would bath at the McLaughlin's.

She did live long enough to see her daughter, Mary Louise, set-up her Milliner business, and to see her daughter, Ora, marry J. Raymond Kelly, M.D. of Hornell, NY. She lived 51 years in Elmira (1876 - 1927). She died on July 21, 1927 in Elmira. A funeral service was held at her family home, 654 N. Main Street. A Mass of the Christian Burial was held at 9:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church. Thr Rev. J.J. Bloomer, V.F. officiated. The pallbearers were James McLaughlin, T.A. Mahaney, William Hughes, Charles Lynch, Frank and William Kelly. Burial was in the Eppler plot at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery in Elmira, NY.
