Mangano and Miller FamiliesUpdated September 5, 2000 |
The main branches of our families are the Mangano family of Rochester, New York, and the Miller family of California. The ancestors of Michael Mangano came to America from Sicily, Italy in the late 1800's. Although we have fairly good information regarding relatives born here in the United States, we have had no luck in tracking down ancestors from Palermo, Montemaggiore, and Valledomo in Sicily. Some of the family names we are researching include Mangano, Cerniglia, Pecoraro, Balsamo, Mancuso, Ippolito, Lo Presti, and Pascucci. The Miller side of the family is more extensively researched, although still with a number of gaps and missing pieces. Many Miller relatives go back to pre-revolutionary war times and include pilgrims, pioneers, European royalty, political figures, and more. I'm sure we have our share of criminals and other unsavory characters, and I'd love to get information and hear stories about them. Surnames from the Miller side of the family include Tefft, Robinson, McIntire, Henry, Burdge, Winston, Dabney, Handley, Halsted, Ogden, Crane, Pease, Cornwall, Kirby, Wells, Nettleton, Mumford, Cooke, Wilcox, Heath, Porter, Mosher, Jones, Poteet, Preston, James, Kenyon, Brownell, Sprague, Jenckes, Barber, Ballard, Holbrook, Eames, Holland, Colt, Sanford, Sherman, Mallory, Warren, Mahieu, and more. Julie's mother's family were German's from Russia. Very little is known about them, besides their established pattern of poor recording keeping in terms of family information. When faced with dreary, regrettable living conditions, keeping family records takes a back seat. Through an incredible stroke of sheer luck, we were able to get in touch with her grandmother's cousin now living in Berlin, Germany. He remained in Russia with his family for many years until the fall of the Berlin wall. He and his family emigrated to Berlin in the mid-1990's where they now live today. We have worked with AHSGR to try to secure more information, but we still have a long way to go. We would like to be able to track down where they originally came from in Germany. German names we are researching include Kaiser, Fritzler, Schaefer, Kerbel, Schott, Kraft and Lefler. We are delighted to share our information with others, as well as to receive information from other family historians regarding our ancestors. |
