Giovanni Manzoni came to America in 1915. He was a mason and also worked for Blue Hill Ice Company in Milton Massachusetts, during the winter months. They would go out on the frozen lakes,cut blocks of ice, load them on horse drawn wagons, and deliver them to the "ice house". The ice would be insulated by being packed with hay around the blocks.

The story is that Giovanni Manzoni gave his partner in the construction business money to make the payment on the home (approx $3,000). The partner swindled Giovanni of the money.
