Henry came to America December 8, 1836 at the age of 17. The name of the
ship was the Olbers and he arrived in the Port of New Orleans, District
of Mississippi
Evidently John Henry (1819) died before 1865 or at least before 1870, because in the 1870 Lousiana Census, his wife Maria, his daughters Emma and Christine and son Fred were living with John Henry, Jr. and his wife Emma Eustatia and their son Henry III.
Question:Could he have died in the War between the States?There was a H. Wellhausen in TX Waul's Legion, Co. C. ???This legion fought at Vicksburg, Corinth, Yazoo City.Upon defeat Companies A & B were allowed to return home peacefully.Company C fell and those surviving were taken as prisoners of war, some in Indianapolis for at least two years, then some were taken to VA where they were exchanged in a prisoner swap.Of course some did not survive the prison camps.
On Wednesday, October 1st, 1851 the Court President of the Parish of Amite, the Honorable J. C. Clarke, Henry Wellhausen (Wellhouser) renouncedf forever all allegiance and fidelity to the King of Bavaria, and became a citizen of the United States of America.
HENRY WAS PROBABLY BURIED IN AMITE CEMETERY BUT SO MANY OF THE GRAVES (ABOUT 200) ARE NOW UNMARKED.
Henry (1819) bought lot from Wentz fronting the area where a new railroad was about to be builtAlso bought lots in Amite from john Bach in 1863 and 1864.He then sold land to John Freeman in 1859 and to Joh Wentz in 1859.In1862 he sold land to John Wetxon.
