| We are researching the families of Robertson, Barton, and Smethers. These old old settler families of the Hood, Parker and Johnson County areas of Texas. We are looking for information on the ancestors of Carl Robertson and his wife, Minnie Mae Smethers. We are looking for information telling when the Robertsons came to Texas, and where they came from. At this time, we can place the Robertson family in Hood County, Texas in 1850. Carl Robertson is the son of William Jarrett (Bill) Robertson and Arminda Barton. We have a lot of information on the Barton family and their travels to Texas from Georgia, but we have very little information on the Robertsons. We also are looking for information on the John Smethers family. Contacts with anyone having information on this family who settled in the Weatherford, Parker County, Texas area would be appreciated. We are also researching the ancestors on my mother's side of the family. This would be the Joseph Robinson family of Acton Hood/Johnson County, Texas. The link to Virginia Lisa Wells provides a great deal of information on this family. However we are missing the paternal side of her family. My grandfather was W.R. (Dick) York, married to Ora Iona Wells. They lived in Cresson, Hood/Johnson County, Texas for over sixty years. He is the son of Cornelius L. Russell York and Nancy Jane Josephine Whitely, both buried in the Georges Creek Cemetery, located in Johnson County, Texas. This is the only information I have, except a family story that Grandpa Cornelius came to Texas as a young boy (about 12 years old) from Tennessee, in a covered wagon. Does anyone know more about this family? |
