I am researching the JOST family originating from the village of Altschweier in Baden, Germany.
My oldest direct JOST ancestor is Johann JOST, born abt. 1680.
My ggg grandfather Melchior Jost (b. 1800, d. 1870) had 8 children, from which 4 emigrated to the USA around 1849/50. Their names were Lorenz (b. 1830, d. 1894), Donat (or John D., b. 1827), Carolina (b. 1823, m. Mathias Frickel, St. Louis, MO), and Helene (b. 1833, m. Johann Schlosser St. Louis, MO).
Lorenz Jost and John D. Jost appeared in the 1870 census of St. Louis, Missouri.
Lorenz JOST married Elisabeth ERB (from Hesse-Darmstadt) and they had 3 daughters and 4 sons: 1) Franz (or Frank, Francis, b. about 1858), 2) August, 3) John, 4) Bertha, 5) Lena (or Helen, b. 1869/70), 6) William J. (or Wilhelm, b. 1871), 7) Theresa.
1) Frank JOST married Maria ACKER. They had 2 children: August G. and Joseph.
5) Lena Jost married Joseph Birkenmeier. They had 4 children: Anna (BRUTSCHER), Lawrence, William Merion, Joseph.
6) William J. JOST married Rose BIRKENMEIER. They had 3 children: Oliver, Florence (SCHAEFER), Esther (ROSE).
I do have contact to descendants of William and Lena Jost, but I don't know very much about their brothers August, John and Frank and their sisters Bertha and Theresa. They all lived in the St. Louis region and were married, Bertha JOST lived on a farm 50 miles outside from St. Louis.
In addition, I'm researching John D. (Donat) JOST's family from St. Louis, Missouri.
He was married, too. His wife's name was Christine, possibliy Noeder (last name). They had at least 4 children. One daughter's name was Louisa. Louisa's husband and two of her sons died within 6 years from pneumonia.
Specifically, I'm trying to find out what happened to John D. Jost's family. Did they stay in St. Louis or did they move to the West?
I am also researching the RETTIG family, the HOERTH family, the VETTER family, the FRANK family, the FALK family, and the DRESEL family, all from Altschweier or Buehlertal/Bühlertal, State of Baden, Germany; the SCHAUB, GERSTNER, MERKEL, FRITZ families from Langenbrand, State of Baden, Germany, and the SCHIFT family, the SCHANER family, and the KORBER (or KORBA/KOVAL) family from Wostitz, South Moravia (Maehren), Czechoslowakia (Sudetenland).
Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have from the Jost family and other families from Germany.
