| I started researching my great-grandfather, George Washington Calvert, with nothing more than a name. He stowed away on one of this older brothers' wagons as they headed west from Kentucky when he was about 8-9 years old. He was not well educated, but found religion at an early age and remained faithful the rest of his life. He was one of about 14 children. He served as a Missouri Volunteer (Union) during the Civil War. He and his brothers originally came to Miller County, MO, but he settled in Boone County, MO to raise his family after his brothers left for Oklahoma and Texas. Tracing the generations backwards, we find we are direct descendents of Lord Baltimore I. This is a work in progress, corrections or additional information are always welcomed and appreciated. |
