3. JOHN² WOODALL (JOHN¹) was born Abt. 1710 in VA, and died Bef. 1810. He married JUDITH SAMPSON Abt. 1731 in Goochland Co., VA, daughter of FRANCIS SAMPSON and BRIDGETTE UNK.

This is a note for the internet:

We have your alleged John Woodall b. 1704 in Goochland Co., VA. (he was the older brother of my ancestor William Woodall b. 1709) & we have him marrying Judith *Sampson? ca. 1729 & dying sometime after 1740. The sources for this is St. James Northam Parish, VA.

Quoting from research found in Ruth Ransford Mason's Woodall Book:

"It is documented that John & Judith had other children than those listed here: John Woodall, Jr born ca 1730 married Dorthea Pledge in 1756, Sampson Woodall born 1734 married Sarah Steel in 1755, and the youngest son, Jacob Woodall born 1740 married Agnes Hicks in 1763. Recorded in the St. James Northam Parish, Virginia. Family members of these early generations lived in Henrico, Goochland, Charlotte and Halifax Counties, Virginia, although John Jr shows up in Wilkes CO GA in 1784 per Index to Headright and Bounty Land Grants 1756-1909. Descendants of this family feel that this John and Judith moved to SC, but if the only proof is a 1787 Anderson Co. Will where a John and Judith signed as witnesses-then their theory is suspect. Another John Woodall was in that vicinity who left two Wills, _both dated 25 February 1806._ The children from his first wife were clearly listed- William, Joseph, John, Sarah (Power) and Ann (McCutcheon). The _only child from his second young wife Judith_ was Thomas Holmes Woodall (teenager), with his half brother Joseph acting as guardian, as stated in the Will. These two Wills made no mention of sons, Sampson and Jacob, etc., showing that the John abd Judith from the two Wills are a different family than John Woodall born in 1704 (who also married a Judith)."

* Sampson?- no documentation of Judith's last name as Sampson.
