I grew up far away from my extended family so that part of my life was always missing. My parents moved from Providence, Rhode Island to Durham, North Carolina, so we were outsiders and worse, Yankees! My parents seemed to prefer the separation from their close-knit immigrant "old world" parents and extended family. My husband's family is the opposit. He grew up in a small community in rural NC where everyone is connected to everyone else and the connections can be drawn with ease in a few breif sentences. I started searching his family first, as it was so easy and I started quite by accident while doing some investigations on another family for work. I found Richard Pickett's website and was amazed that the Markhams were traced to the early 1700s in Orange County, NC. Now, I really do believe that we are only six steps away from everyone else in the world. On GenForm I found two distant cousins on my side of the family, Debbie Oborne Smith and Brenda Godward O'Sail. I am still searching. Any comments, suggestions or help is appreciated.
