Johannes lived in Ittlingen in the Northern Kraichgau, now part of Baden. Heidelberg is quite near, to the northwest. The Neckar River makes the north and northeast boundary of this district. Sinsheim, in the center, is the main town. Though not large, about the size of a country in the eastern United States, it was divided into eighty-six separate principalities. Some belonged to the Palatine Elector, some to the Bishop of Speyer and to the ducal families of Wirtemberg. The others were owned by noble and knightly,families, petty rulers of tracts often only a few miles square. A map showing these various sovereignties looks like a crazy quilt. Ittligen was a knightly town and the religion of the ruler also determined the religion of the town. Ittlingen was a Lutheran town.
Johannes and Anna, with their younger sons Heinrich and Friederich, came to Pennsylvania in the new world exodus of 1717.
1718: Appeared in American records when he joined the New York City Lutheran Church
1728: signed a petition in Hanover (now Montgomery Co), PA.
