I am researching my Husbands Ancestors. The surnames that I am researching are MARTIN, WEEKS, LUMPKINS, CRABTREE, CHESSER, WHITAKER, INCE, ELSICK.Most of these families were living in Tennessee before the Civil War.After the war, these families moved West. The families eventually settled in Oklahoma and Texas. The MARTIN'S lived in Lincoln County, Tennessee from at least 1820.There is some evidence that the MARTIN'S moved to Tennessee from Georgia. The WEEK'S also moved to Franklin County, Tennesee (which is near Lincoln County) from Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia. The WEEK'S lived in Georgia before 1818. The LUMPKINS'are also from Tennesee. Lawrenceburg, Lawrence County Tennessee before 1818.Edward LUMPKINS' was born in Virgina around 1780. The CHESSER'S lived in Marshall County and Lincoln County, Tennesee before 1827.They could have arrived from Europe by boat and landed in North Carolina. The WHITAKER's also lived in Marshall County, Tennessee before 1821.They also had lived in Lincoln County, Tennesee. For a while the WHITAKER's had lived in Kentucky. They could also have arrived from Europe by boat and landed in North Carolina. The INCE family finally settled in Texas. From the East, they had lived in Tennessee and Missouri. They were living inMecklenburg, Craven County, North Carolina before 1802.It is most likely that the INCE's came to American from Ireland. The ESLICK family settled in the Midwest; Missouri and Iowa.Their route to the West was from North Carolina, Butler County, Kentucky, Bartholomew County, Indiana to Missouri. Some of the ESLICK'S split up in Missouri and moved to Iowa. Almost all of these families probably had arrived to America from Europe and landed at a North Carolina Port. How many portswere open in North Carolina around the 1700's?It seems that there were thousands of immigrants leaving Europe about 1760.What was so special in Tennesee? Most of these immigrants lived in the middle south of Tennessee.Almost all of these families left Tennesee after the Civil War.Was there wagon trains going to the West? Any help would be appreciated.I will gladly share what information I have. | The Cheryl Martin Family Home Page Updated September 5, 2000 |
